In recent years, regions have introduced measures to encourage marriage and childbirth, including subsidies, financial incentives and extended marriage leave. A nationwide childcare subsidy launched in 2025 provides 3,600 yuan ($500) annually for up to three years per eligible child. A revised marriage registration regulation that took effect in May 2025 also allows couples to register their marriage across provincial boundaries with only identity cards required.
